NTU Fall 2026: What Makes a Strong Application

As the NTU Office of International Affairs, we want to share what genuinely makes candidates stand out.

What We Actually Prioritize

  • Research fit with faculty (most important)
  • Quality of research proposal
  • Recommendation letters (specificity matters over prestige)
  • English proficiency (threshold requirement, not differentiator)
  • Academic GPA (context-dependent)
  • The Research Proposal

    Your proposal should:
    • Be 2,000–3,000 words, not longer
    • Reference recent NTU faculty publications — this shows you've done homework
    • Describe your preliminary work or relevant experience
    • Outline a realistic timeline and methodology

We see many proposals that say "I want to research AI." That tells us nothing. Show us you understand the landscape.

    Contacting Professors

We strongly recommend emailing potential supervisors before submitting your formal application. Do not send mass emails. Show genuine interest in their specific work.

    English Proficiency

    Our minimums:
    • IELTS 6.5 (most programs)
    • TOEFL iBT 90 (most programs)
    • GMAT/GRE required for MBA and some business programs

Meeting the minimum makes you eligible — not competitive. Strong applicants typically score 7.0+ IELTS.

    Open Days 2026

    Virtual information sessions:
    • January 15 — Graduate Programs Overview
    • February 12 — Scholarship Q&A
    • March 5 — Lab Tours and Faculty Introductions
